Leash on Life is a return to form for the Midwest's R.Mutt. With 11 songs fleshed out during long practices and writing sessions, this album finds the band back to blending styles and feels with little attention paid to any given genre. The overall tone of the album is set in the first 4 songs which showcase the type of story telling that the band brought in Heptane married with the drive and excitement delivered on Earth to Guy.

The addition of guitarist Dan Power has brought back to the band the dueling guitar sounds that were it's original trademark. Ron Thornton and Dan seamlessly trade off lead and rhythm parts blurring the lines along the way. The original rhythm section of Jim Dier and Paul Leckie is reunited on this record with powerful results.

With Dan Whitaker back at school lead singing duties fell squarely on Ron and Jim who traded back and forth in true R. Mutt fashion. With the full band in the studio working together so well the background vocals became much more intricate and wound up more well executed. Long time friend of the band, Joe Bellante, coached the band through some interesting vocal effects on both I Hope You Know and Dynamo.

Two songs came together initially as collaborations between Jim and local Milwaukee furniture builder, Michael Stodola. Spinout and The Tale of Bobby A are both stories of the challenges faced by boys becoming men. Spinout was inspired by a Colin Berry written piece that originally caught Jim's attention while The Tale of Bobby A is a remembering of a boyhood story from Michael's days growing up in Nebraska.

In the end, this album represents R. Mutt again as a band. Writing and performing the music that has been kicking your ears' asses since 1988.

Fighting 03:04
------------ FIGHTING ------------ VERSE 1 I know its sounds strange but not I'm not the same, And I guess I just might be the one to blame, I'm sick of not knowing how to play the game So please tell me, tell me, tell me why we've got to fight When I called you today you didn't have the time. I'm hearing noise on the line, you think you're being so sly? I've had it up to here with your god awful lines. And I hear it, oh I hear it, I hear us fighting one more time. It's so hard to catch my breath, And make an impact with you, But it's so so much more than that and I'd hate to see it end with you Chorus Fighting on the streets Fighting on the playground Fighting all the time and its dragging me down Fighting, left or right? Fighting, black or white? Fighting for the sake of fighting just ain't right. ******************************************** Record your own cover version. (verse 1) Bobby was a boy, A boy with a bowl of blond hair. and Bobby was a boy, A boy with a trike that he rode like he just didn't care. It was big and red, and just like his aching head Looked large for that young boy. (verse 2) Bobby was a devil, such a devil who dared to ride his trike that day. And when Bobby was kissed he was kissed by the bumper of a 68 Chevrotte He was still, in the mud, he was broken and covered in blood Boy and ride went their separate ways (chorus) At the crossroads of youth and American splendor Lies a dangerous bite or so, it's been said. When glory is meets a life head on You might wake up with an Aitkenhead. (verse 3) And now Bobby is a man living in a can playing FaceBook and Virtual Hold 'em And Bobby can work an insurance plan or unload trucks like his bosses told him. And though, his whole life was filled with pain and full of strife. That young boy wouldn't choose another life. (chorus) At the crossroads of youth and American splendor Lies a dangerous bite or so, it's been said. When glory is meets a life head on You might wake up with an Aitkenhead. --------------- if'n you want to play along: Verse | E | A | B | B | | E | A | B | B | | A | B | C#- (B)| B A | | A | A | B | (nc) | Chorus | E | A | B | B | | E | A | B | B | | C#- B | A | B | C#- | | C#- B | A | B | (nc) ||

------------------------ Think About It ------------------------ I heard that you want a little piece of the action but I think you'll find yourself a big distraction I sure hope that your pockets are deep Or else you'll set yourself up for a real long sleep So think about it. It looks like you've lost a little bit of your traction Perhaps due to your own inaction? I sure hope your loyalty's deep Or else you'll find yourself bundled in a great big heap Oh think about it. I guess I'm glad you've found your little piece of the action I see that you can tell from my reaction That although I think you're way off beat We will always be calling you the king of the street Oh think about it. ------------------------------------- I don't do tab, so you have to figure the lick out for yourself, but here's the chords: Verse Bm Em F7-9 Bridge Bm G D A Bm G D F#

Beautiful Bad Day Her eyes were cold as snow on Saturday When we arrived she said, "The rooms are a mess." asked if we’d come back at ten Half past ten I rang the bell again, but she had locked and gone So we pitched our tent on the truck bed I told my dog I think it’s done. The city lights below they welcomed us to the summer of the end And when I think of it I'm too tired to stare off the pain In the warm of night, we sang softly On a beautiful bad day And for one last time, she has awoke me On a beautiful bad day I traveled far to find new answers On a beautiful bad day And we were barely there and when it hit me in a beautiful way Her life was structured now but everyday when she awoke she thought she had made a big mistake When she asked that they would leave They left some time ago, out on their own, she couldn’t make it play And he doesn't fit so nicely here She couldn't let him stay The city lights above, reminded her of the summer of regret And when she broke it down She wanted to tell him she was wrong again In the cold of night she cried softly On a beautiful bad day And she wondered when her heart had broken On a beautiful bad day So before he left, she went to kiss him On a beautiful bad day They were barely gone when it hit her in a beautiful way ***************************************************** If you want to play along: Chords SECTION A - (1st part of verse and entire chorus) ||: E/E | E/Eb (E/B) | A A6 | AM7 A6 :|| Chords SECTION B - (2nd part verse) | CØ | C#-7 | A A2 | A A2 | | CØ | C#-7 | A A2 | A A2 | | A A2 | A A2 |

--------------- I Hope You Know --------------- Verse 1 If you got almost nothing and you're feeling like you're living in a hamster wheel And the big smooth talker's spouting on about his great big deal And a mean green man's about to take away your only meal Oh, and the world feels as if its slipping all over an orange peel Chorus It seems to me as if you've had a bad day today Don't you worry, it's alright You know there's nothing that I'd ever do to make you feel that way I'm hope you know, it's alright Verse 2 You don't need much of nothing - when you wheel away from home you'll be on your way. Just keep your hands in your pockets and let that man know that you won't pay Use your fork as a knife and defend yourself against his hungry moves and take a little bit of comfort knowing that there's still some hanging fruit ******************************************* Verse | Em | B7 | B7 | Em | x 2 FIRST CHORUS | C | G | B7 | Em | | C | G | A | F C | G| SOLO CHORUS | C | G | B7 | Em | | C | G | Am | D7 | LAST CHORUS | C | G | B7 | Em | | C | G | A | F C | G | F C | G | OUTRO | F | C | F | C | F | C | F | F C | G | credits
